601 by Jan des Bouvrie for GELDERLAND
Jan des Bouvrie, our Dutch National Design Guru, proved with this armchair that comfort and style can indeed go hand in hand. The ‘Mr. Oberman’ armchair - the ultimate proof that even furniture makers possess a sense of humor. This design from 1971 was named after Koene Oberman, the founder of the furniture manufacturer Gelderland, who apparently took his daily afternoon naps in it. One might say this chair is quite literally the result of someone’s dreams. Think of it as a design version of your favorite grandfather’s chair, albeit one that wouldn’t look out of place in your ultra-modern interior. The version we offer you is made in the 1980s and comes with a fresh dark brown-coloured nubuck upholstery, which offers an outstanding softness while maintaining remarkable durability.
